"It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves."

Edmund Hillary

What NLP principles are the most helpful in reframing the clients issue?

     Focus on outcome not problem.

NLP focuses on outcomes, on finding out what it is that the client wants to achieve, the resources available and how we can utilise these to reach an outcome everyone desires.

     Focus on how not why.

The ‘how’ question, takes us further towards understanding the structure of a problem. ‘Why did this happen?’ is very limited as it searches for blame. ‘How did this happen?’ on the other hand searches for cause and effect.

     Focus on feedback not failure.

When we look at failure as a form of feedback and an opportunity to reflect, we can open up our possibilities and help ourselves achieve our goals the second, third or fourth time around. Instead of feeling disappointed, we focus on analysing the steps we took and identifying which ones can be changed.

     Focus on possibility not necessity.

Instead of considering the necessities in a difficult situation, consider the possibilities. While necessities restrict way of thinking the possibilities open the doors to potential.

Focus on curiosity and fascination not assumption.

A big part of NLP is opening the mind to change and possibility. Assuming we know something can limit the expansion of that knowledge. You may know that the world is round, but you should never assume that your knowledge is stationary. Knowledge is transitory and the more we learn, the more that changes.

As NLP trained therapist I have a great choice of techniques to help you to reframe the way you perceive yourself, your past, future and the world. Among the most powerful which have proved to be very effective in treating issues related to phobias, anxiety, confidence, bad habits and performance are Anchoring, Swish, Rewind, Pattern Interruption, Loop Brake, Framing and Modelling.
